What I learned this week
My first week in Italy was an exciting one and during that time I learned much about the people, the culture, and the city. The people of Florence seemed a little odd at first like eating dinner very late and taking two hour lunches. But after spending time with locals I learned they are very friendly and very patient when trying to communicate with them with less then perfect Italian. I spent a lot of time in museums and historical sites and most of the art you will find is Gothic and Renaissance pieces. Both are amazing styles but I liked the renaissance pieces better personally. Some things I did not like about the art was that in most Gothic pieces they had a bright gold background and in most Madonna and Child paintings it portrayed Jesus as looking like a middle aged man in a baby's body which freaked me out. My favorite works of art were the statues though and Michelangelo's David was truly amazing. I also learned that most Italians stick to just Italian foods so there are far less ethnic restaurants then you would find back in the U.S.
